Fox Valley Hands of Hope (formerly FVVH)

Herbie's Friends Dinners - October 2015, May 2016, May 2017 and . . . coming up . . . May 2018

Herbie's Friends is a program offered by Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice to assist families in helping their children deal with the loss of a loved one.

The families meet, have a meal together, and then break into smaller groups where they are guided in discussion by a Hospice volunteer.

For several years now Altrusa has supported the program by offering to provide a kid friendly and (mostly) homemade meal to the group.  Our members plan, cook, bake, shop, tote, and put on a really nice dinner for the participants.  Our November 5th, 2015 dinner had a Mexican theme (Beef and chicken tacos, Spanish rice, black beans, cornbread, lettuce / tomato / cheese for toppings, guacamole w/ nacho chips and cookies.)  This great meal was provided through the efforts of Linda Thome, Lynn Radford, Pat Frieders, Bonni Ellis, Linda Lindberg, Sandee Jensen, Sharee Clough and Cathy Rady.

We received many thank you's and plenty of compliments for the wonderful, generous and talented cooks from our club.

At our February 2012 meeting, Cathy Rady organized a craft night so that all members attending could work together to benefit the residents at Fox Valley Hospice. We tied knots on the edges of 16 fleece blankets including a bit of Altrusa love.

Some Altrusans met at Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice in Geneva to present Elise C. Wall, Manager of Volunteer Services, with the blankets.
